Oh Movement Detroit, how we have missed you!
COVID-19 lockdowns not only kept us confined in our homes for far too long, but kept us away from our yearly pilgrimage to Detroit during Memorial Day Weekend to attend what we know to be the most anticipated underground electronic music festival in North America, bar none.
Movement Music Festival has announced the full lineup of its highly anticipated 2022 return, featuring over 110 acts, including Detroit Techno Originator Juan Atkins, acclaimed producer and founder of Brainfeeder Records, Flying Lotus, techno pioneer Kevin Saunderson performing under his iconic alias E-Dancer, and Detroit Techno icon Carl Craig performing a special b2b set with LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy. Today’s announcement also includes British beatmaker Jon Hopkins (off the back of his acclaimed and boundary breaking Music For Psychedelic Therapy album); Atlanta rap stalwart 2 Chainz; Grammy-award winning producer Skrillex; iconic New York house duo The Martinez Brothers; Detroit electro pioneer DJ Stingray 313; British-Japanese producer and DJ, Maya Jane Coles; renowned house music duo Duck Sauce; Dance music heavyweight Chris Lake; Soulection co-founder Joe Kay; rising Australian DJ and producer HAAi and many others.
These artists join the previously announced headlining electronic music legends Jeff Mills, Richie Hawtin, and Adam Beyer, as well as UK Drum and Bass legends Goldie and LTJ Bukem performing together for the first-time ever as Goldie b2b LTJ Bukem, plus Natasha Diggs; Anfisa Letyago, Blawan, DRAMA, The Blessed Madonna, ANNA, Eris Drew b2b Octo Octa, Louie Vega, Seth Troxler, Maceo Plex and many more.
In keeping with the festival’s tradition of celebrating Detroit’s music culture, this year’s lineup features some of the city’s most prominent DJs, producers, and rising stars in dance music and beyond, including Detroit Techno pioneers, Stacey Pullen and DJ Minx; House music mainstays Rick Wilhite and Andrés; acclaimed Hip-Hop and House music producer Waajeed, plus Drummer B, Icewear Vezzo, Jazmin Re’Nae, Neisha Neshae, Huey Mnemonic, Tammy Lakkis, Deon Jamar, Meftah and many more.
For the first time since 2019 music fans will once again be able to make the pilgrimage to Detroit, the mecca of Techno music, for three days of diverse curation on Memorial Day Weekend (May 28-30, 2022) inside Hart Plaza at downtown Detroit’s riverfront. Since its inception, Movement has been dedicated to bringing music fans a completely original experience to Detroit, with a focus on showcasing authentic and diverse lineups that are purely about the music and culture. The 2022 lineup continues to showcase the breadth of the festival’s programming, featuring an inspired selection of dance music’s most in-demand artists, underground mainstays, and notable first-time performers; a potent cross section of seasoned vets and future generations of electronic music.
